The Situation of Women and Girls in the Arab region remains unresolved. Incremental progress has been documented, yet the pace is slow and does not reflect the commitments made to the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. This joint regional analytical effort features data and analysis of the situation of women and girls in the region over the last two decades, and discuss the implications for a new sustained action for gender equality and women’s rights.

COVID-19 Learning Losses: Rebuilding Quality Learning for All in the Middle East and North Africa

The COVID-19 pandemic and associated educational disruption represents a catastrophe for the schooling, learning, and earning potential of the more than 110 million students from pre-primary to higher education in the Arab Region.

This study jointly produced by UNESCO, UNICEF and the World Bank aims to investigate and quantify – using micro-simulation tools - the potential impacts of COVID-19 on education and learning in the region, including their long-term implications, and provides policy recommendations.

Running Dry: the impact of water scarcity on children in the Middle East and North Africa

Water challenges in the Middle East and North Africa existed for thousands of years. However, the scale and impact of the crisis today is unprecedented. The very survival of children is at stake, with around 41 million people in the region lacking access to safely managed drinking water services and 66 million people lacking basic sanitation services leading to more disease and fragility.

This report produced by UNICEF reviews what water scarcity means for children in the MENA region and discuss the key way forward to address children’s vulnerabilities to water scarcity.
